Description
WWII Belgium Browning Pistol Presented By America's Top Ace Lt. Col Gabreski 9mm Belgium Browning Hi Power. Standard slide markings " Fabrique National D'Armes De Guerre Herstal Delcique " Brownings Patent Depose" matching serial numbers 650314 with a series of WWII German proof marks. 7" barrel , semi automatic pistol , blued finish, tangent rear sight. Shows 90% original blue finish with a number of small scratches commensurate with service use. Original wood grips with a 1 1/2" chip on one side and a 3/4" chip on the other. Pistol is accompanied by an original autograph note from Lt Col Francis Gabreski which reads;"interesting history. The pistol was manufactured in Belgium and was confiscated by a German captain after over-running the country in 1940 , in 1945 the Russians over ran the little village of Barth Germany , a mile from prison camp, Stalag Luft 16 and a Russian Colonel who confiscated the weapon from the German captain, presented it to me as a souvenir. Since you are making a collection of pistols, I thought that it would mean more to you than it does to me. Well fella, hope to meet you some day, wishing you all the best .Sincerely, F.S. Also accompanying the pistol is a signed hand written letter from William Gavin stating that he received the Belgian 9mm High Power Browning Automatic Pistol serial number 6503 from Francis Gabreski in 1946. Both Gavin and Gabreski were from Oil City, Pa and were long term friends.
