Description

Apollo 11 Flown Purdue University Large Centennial Flag Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty.

A 12" x 8" silk flag with the logo centered and "Purdue" above and "Centennial Year/ 1868 - 1969" below, in the school colors of Black on Old Gold. This amazing memento was one of two that flew to the moon on Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing, with Purdue graduate Mission Commander Neil Armstrong. Flattened storage fold and separation at the lower black border, light soiling, sealed in a numbered archival sleeve. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

Purdue has produced twenty-three astronauts- not only Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, but also Gus Grissom, the second American in space, and Gene Cernan, the last man on the moon. One-third of all NASA space missions have had at least one Purdue graduate as a crew member.

Purdue University was established May 6, 1869, and Armstrong was proud to celebrate its centennial by flying this special flag to the moon. We feel it would be a noble act by a Boilermaker graduate (or fan) to purchase this flag in time for the University's sesquicentennial in 2019, and either donate it to Purdue or allow them to display it.
