Description

C. 1815 American Eaglehead Artillery Officer's Saber. Plain 28", 1 1/2" wide curved blade with generally smooth gray patina and just some scattered salt and peppering and staining. The hilt utilizes the "Bolton/Upson" eaglehead, fluted knucklebow which splits at the base forming two thin scalloped branches along with a scalloped central section under the grip, the three terminating in a clamshell quillon. One very minor bend on one of the outboard branches, minor, with the hilt retaining 80% of the original gilt. Fluted ivory grip about perfect with nice mellow patina, 3/8" brass ferrule at the base. There is no scabbard. Very attractive eaglehead from this earlier period in very desirable form.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
