Fine Colt 3rd Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver #15603 Matching With Impeccable Provenance To Use By Lt. Col. Thomas J. Jackson, 42nd Indiana and 11th US Colored Infantry During The Civil War. Wounded at the Fort Pillow Massacre All metal generally smooth and gray with just some minor pitting at the muzzle and on the cylinder. Frame and barrel with traces of case colors and blue. Cylinder with 10% scene and sharp serial number, fine bore. Grip excellent with 90% original varnish. Brass straps excellent with soft light patina and 20% original silver. All matching numbers except for the wedge, mechanically crisp, wedge screw replaced. Included are; Notarized affidavit from a direct descendent stating that the pistol was once the property of Lt. Col. Thomas J. Jackson, CDV of Jackson taken in Memphis with period inked inscription on the reverse listing the battles he participated in; Two cdvs of him - one in uniform, both show wear; Cabinet card photo taken in later life; Copies and original pension records and newspaper clippings concerning his death ( run over by a Santa Fe train ). Jackson joined the 7th Regiment Heavy Artillery Feb 22 1864 and participated in the Battle of Fort Pillow also known as the "Fort Pillow Massacre" where he was severely wounded. Colonel Jackson's obituary states that he "shot, bayonetted, smashed up side of the head by the butt of a musket and then kicked into the river to drown". A fine untouched 3rd Model Dragoon with great history and certainly worthy of further research.
