Description
JUDAEA. Roman era, circa 3rd centuries CE. Glass flask with palm decorations. Standing 3.65 inches (9.25 cm) tall, this partially mold-blown vessel has a long, narrow neck and a bulbous, roughly conical body decorated on either side by two stylized palm branches. Broken and expertly restored. From The Living Torah Museum Collection; ex Michael Kaufman Collection, acquired by private donation.
The palm branch symbol was widely used in early Christian iconography, symbolic of Christ's arrival in Jerusalem on what would later be called Palm Sunday.
