Description

ANCIENT NEAR EAST. Middle-Late Bronze Age, circa 1900-1300 BCE. Elamite bronze ax head. Of short, thick fabric, 3.45 inches (8.7 cm) in length, with a broad,flaring blade and a socket reinforced with two spikes at back. Cf. Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Adam Collection by P.R.S. Moorey (Ashmolean Museum, 1974), page 36, plate 1 for a similar example, identified as Elamite, belonging to the era of King Attakhushu (19th century BCE).
