Description
Set of Fine Condition Civil War Captain of Artillery Fringed Epaulettes in the original tin storage case with period ID to the 4th New York Heavy Artillery. Both epaulettes with gold bullion tape, gilt brass crescents, retaining most of the original finish and small eagle A buttons. Affixed to each epaulette are false embroidered silver captain's bars. Double row of fringe with the exterior row 1/2" in diameter and the inner row 3/16". Undersides with red Moroccan leather, red velvet, and slotted 5/8" wide brass bars for attachment to the uniform. Both epaulettes in excellent sound condition just showing some minor use. Tin storage case with black painted finish and just a few small dents. Missing the small oval tin storage compartment in the bottom of the case. Clearly visible in a hand painted panel on the top of the case by the handle "HHA/2nd N. Y. H. A." The 2nd New York Heavy Artillery was heavily engaged throughout the war, losing 214 men, killed and mortally wounded. Very nice set of Civil War cased epaulettes with ID to a very heavily fought regiment.Auction Info
