Tombstone, Arizona Territory: Two Early Bank Drafts. Two bank drafts relating to early Tombstone history. 1) A L. M. Jacobs & Company bank draft, 8.5" x 2 7/8", unnumbered, dated September 14, 1878, for the amount $300.00 payable to J. M. Vizina. The draft is signed by J. P. Arey, bank cashier, and stamped in blue ink. Vizina's signature appears on the back of the draft. J.M. Vizina was an early resident of Tombstone and a prominent businessman in the town. The L. M. Jacobs Company was founded in Tucson in 1871 by Barron M. (1846-1936) and Lionel M. Jacobs (1840-1922), who were also founders of the Consolidated Bank of Tucson. 2) An Agency Pima County Bank draft, 8" x 3.5", "No. 5076", dated October 26, 1880, for the amount of $75.00 payable to Camille Roullier. The draft is signed by bank manager P. W. Smith and is stamped in red ink. The back of the check is signed by Roullier, who owned a hotel and saloon in Arivaca, Arizona Territory. The first draft has a small hole to left of the word "Pay," and the second draft has a small tear in the center, without affecting text. Otherwise, both drafts are in good condition.
