Description

"Flying": Complete Set of Forty-eight Senior Service Cigarettes Photo Tobacco Cards from 1939, in Archival Binder Sleeves. Each is double-sided with a B&W photo of a plane, pilot, or airport on the front and a caption on the back, 2" x 3" in size (larger than most tobacco cards). Senior Service cigarettes were a popular brand in the UK, which were known not only for their distinctive taste but also for their collectible tobacco cards. One of their most notable card sets was the "Flying" series released in 1939, which encapsulated the era's fascination with aviation, a period that saw a proliferation of airshows, aviation-themed movies and literature. This set featured illustrations and information about various aircraft, both military and civilian, offering an educational glimpse into the state of aeronautical design and technology of the time. The Senior Service "Flying" card set stands as a testament to the early blending of marketing and education in consumer goods and remains a sought after collectible item among enthusiasts. Don't forget, in several of Ian Fleming's 007 novels, Senior Service is the brand James Bond smokes. Very fine.
