Unmarked European Percussion Salon Pistol. .50 caliber, 10 3/8-inch slightly swamped octagonal barrel with dovetailed front and mid-range sights. Breech engraved with numeral 1 [gun is one of once existing pair], floral scrolls and figural motifs. Hammer, lock, counterplate, furniture and pommel band all ornately engraved with floral scrolls, mythical creatures, predator birds and panoplies of arms. Set-triggers. Spurred triggerguard. Relief-carved deluxe walnut stock, the fore-end cap carved in the form of a hawk's head; finely checkered grip panels; back edge of grip with incised frond and gold-inlaid shield-shaped escutcheon with MR and crown monogram. Floral rosette pommel cap. Engraved screws. Condition: Fair. Metal with smooth grey patina. Minor spotting. Wood with wear and minor bruises. Action needs work as hammer will not stay cocked.
