Description

Neil Armstrong's Owned and Worn Barron Hilton Cup / EADS Leather Bomber-Style Leather Jacket with Photographic Provenance, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. A comfortable heavy brown leather jacket, size L, with jersey cuffs and waistband, a removable sheepskin collar, and multiple pockets. Apparently made in Germany based on the tagging at an inside pocket. We feel that it dates between 2000 and 2005 and we have confirmed that Neil Armstrong did participate in the 2005 event (the 25th anniversary) at the Flying M Ranch near Reno, Nevada. The jacket bears multiple patches, all professionally sewn, as follows.

Left breast: "The Barron Hilton Cup in Cooperation with EADS European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company" and an EADS pilot's wings.
Left upper arm: Eurocopter.
Right breast: "Airbus A300B October 28, 1972", "Pesca Maritima CASA", "Aerospeciale Matra", and "Daimler Chrysler Aerospace".
Right upper arm: EADS logo.

Included with this lot is a color photo print of Armstrong wearing this very jacket, one of his favorites. Very fine. This lot will include an encapsulated CAG Photo Certificate with a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

Running for thirty years, 1980-2009, the Barron Hilton Cup was a worldwide soaring contest founded by the now-retired head of Hilton Hotels. EADS was a partner in the event. Since 1986, it was recognized by the International Gliding Commission as a Fédération Aéronautique Internationale first-category event. The purpose of the competition was to promote long-distance gliding and to strengthen gliding contacts between the participating nations. Soaring was one of Armstrong's favorite activities thus the importance of this jacket.
