Apollo 13: Original and Flight Crews Signed Covers with "Steeds of Apollo" Limited Edition Artist-Signed Print by Mission Insignia Designer Lumen Winter in Framed Display. An outstanding all-encompassing display celebrating the Apollo 13 mission. Featuring an unused cacheted "NASA MANNED SPACECRAFT CENTER STAMP CLUB" cover featuring the mission insignia. It has been neatly signed by the original flight crew (Jack Swigert was a last minute replacement due to Ken Mattingly having been exposed to German measles): "James Lovell", "Ken Mattingly", and "Fred Haise". To the right of it is a German launch day cover featuring the mission insignia that has been cancelled at Cape Canaveral on April 11, 1970. It has been signed by the flight crew in various inks: "Jack Swigert", "James Lovell", and "Fred Haise/ Apollo 13". Just above both covers is a 1981-dated 23" x 14.5" (sight size) color lithograph on textured paper numbered at lower left "140/500" and signed lower right "Lumen Winter", both in pencil. The printed caption beneath the image of four galloping horses reads: "Steeds of Apollo - the painting by Lumen Martin Winter chosen as the theme of the official insignia for the historic flight Apollo XIII by James Lovell - Fred Haise and Jack Swigert...Thomas Mattingly". This is based on a mural Mr. Lumen (1908-1982) painted for the St. Regis Hotel in New York. All items have been matted and framed to an overall 31.5" x 29". A striking display commemorating the memorable mission. Very fine.
