Description

With hand-drawn Mercury symbol

Mercury Seven Astronauts: Signatures of Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, and Scott Carpenter on a Rare Vintage Sheet of Houston Colt .45s Baseball Club Stationery. One page, 8.5" x 11", bearing the ink (various) signatures of the four above as well as the Mercury "symbol" drawn by either Schirra or Grissom. The Colt 45s entered the National League in 1962 as an expansion team along with the Mets. Three years later they were re-named the Astros because of Houston being the host to the Johnson Space Center. This was obtained by Gene Elston who was the radio and television announcer for the team. We can envision that these astronauts were in the office or broadcast booth one day and Elston just grabbed what was at hand to get signed. A very cool display piece for either the Space or Sports collector. Tape stains at corners would mat out, light wear, about fine.
