Description

Ex. Buzz Aldrin

Apollo 11 Flown Beta Cloth Mission Insignia Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, Signed, with Signed LOA. A 9" x 9" (5.5" x 7.5" sight size) Beta cloth patch matted and framed to an overall 9.5" x 11.5". It is signed "Buzz Aldrin" beneath the 3.375" diameter insignia. Attached to the back of the frame is a 5.5" x 3.25" signed LOA with the following information: "This is to certify that this patch printed on space suit material was carried to the Moon on Apollo 11 July 20, 1969 [signed] Buzz Aldrin". The "space suit material" Aldrin mentions is fire-resistant Beta cloth developed by Dow-Corning as a reaction to the tragic Apollo 1 fire where the astronauts' nylon spacesuits melted and fused together. Gifted by Aldrin to his older sister Fay Ann. Obtaining such a large flown artifact that was originally retained by the second man to walk on the Moon is a rare opportunity. Very fine.

A Letter of Authenticity signed by Mrs. Potter's son (the executor of her estate) will accompany this lot.
