Apollo 13 Crew-Signed (Flight Crew) Bendix Contractor's Launch Cover Addressed to Congressman Bob Wilson (R, CA) at Washington, D.C. A philatelic cover with a 6¢ "Apollo 8" stamp affixed, bearing a pictorial machine cancelation at Kennedy Space Center dated April 11, 1970. The Bendix Launch Support Division cachet is titled "Third Manned Lunar Landing" and features the Saturn rocket AS-508, portraits of the astronauts, and a moon scene. It is signed in various inks: "James Lovell" (partially signed over the other two), "Fred Haise", and "Jack Swigert". The address is typed to: "Honorable Bob Wilson" at his office. Included as a cover stiffener is a Bendix pamphlet. Lovell's felt tip signature has "spread" just a tiny bit. Fine.Bendix Corporation played a crucial role in NASA's lunar landing efforts through several key contributions. First, Bendix was selected to design, manufacture, test, and provide operational support for the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP), a suite of scientific instruments deployed on the Moon's surface by Apollo astronauts23. Additionally, Bendix developed critical components for the lunar module and contributed to the design of the lunar rover, including a mobility test article that helped solve problems with the wheel assembly15.
