Description
Albert H. "Al" Crews NASA Johnson Space Center Flight Suit, Directly from His Estate. Original NASA flight coveralls, tan/beige in color, heavy-duty cotton or Nomex-blend construction with front zip closure, zippered sleeve and leg pockets, waist adjusters, and reinforced elbows and knees. The left breast bears a stitched NASA "meatball" insignia, and the right chest features a black leather name tag embossed in gold: "AL CREWS/ JSC - HOUSTON". Crews was a career Air Force pilot and graduate of the USAF Test Pilot School, he was selected on April 20, 1962 for the second group of X-20 Dyna-Soar astronauts, replacing Neil Armstrong, who had transferred to NASA's astronaut corps. After the Dyna-Soar program was cancelled in 1963, Crews continued his spaceflight career as one of the first astronauts chosen for the Manned Orbiting Laboratory (MOL) program in 1965. When that program ended in 1969, he transferred to NASA's Flight Crew Directorate at the Johnson Space Center. Please see other material from the Crews estate in this auction. Age related wear, overall fine.Auction Info
