Description
Alan Bean's De La Vaulx High Relief Silver Medal Awarded by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale for "Total Time in Space" in 1973, from His Personal Collection, with Certificate of Authenticity. A 51mm x 76mm, 212 gram, rectangular silver medal, designed by Samuel Grun, with a profile image of Comte H de La Vaulx on the obverse and an eagle in high relief over a plane and balloon on the reverse. Engraved below is "Alan L. Bean/ Etats Unis/ Temps total dans l' espace..." This is for total time in space which, with Apollo 12 added to Skylab II (SL-3), totaled 69 days, 15 hours, 45 minutes, and 29 seconds. This Medal was established by the FAI in 1933 in memory of the Comte de la Vaulx, founder-member and past President of the FAI who lost his life in an aircraft accident while on a mission for the promotion of Aviation. De la Vaulx Medals are awarded to the holders of recognized absolute world records set during the previous year. Rarely offered at auction. Some rubbing, excellent.
