Description

Ex. Tom Stafford

Apollo 10 Flown Largest Size American Flag Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Tom Stafford, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. An 18" x 12" U.S. flag that accompanied the crew of the important Apollo 10 mission to the moon in May 1969. Stafford has signed on the lowest white stripe: "Flown to the Moon on Apollo X, May 1969 Tom Stafford." Very few flags of this size were flown on the Apollo missions. Obtaining one flown on the Apollo 10 mission is a rare opportunity. Very fine.

Included with this lot is an informative letter of authenticity stating in full: "This United States flag was carried to the moon on the Apollo X mission. It was one of the very few extra large flags taken on our mission. It measures about 11.5 by 18 inches. Our flight lasted from May 18 to 26, 1969. Apollo X successfully tested techniques needed to accomplish the first lunar landing mission of July 1969.

"The flag has been in my private collection since 1969. I have written that the flag was 'Flown to the Moon on Apollo X, May 1969' and signed it on the lower white bar." Signed in black ink at close: "Thomas P. Stafford". From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
