Description

Ex. Dave Scott

Apollo 9 Flown Silver Robbins Medallion, Serial Number 160. This 25mm sterling silver medal was one of 350 flown aboard Apollo 9, March 3-13, 1969, in the first space test of the complete Apollo spacecraft that included the third piece of Apollo hardware- the lunar module. The three-man crew consisted of Jim McDivitt, Dave Scott, and Rusty Schweickart. The obverse is based on the mission insignia, featuring a Saturn V rocket with the letters USA on it. To its right, an Apollo CSM is shown next to a LM; the CSM is trailing rocket fire in a circle around the Roman numerals "IX". The reverse features the dates of the mission, names of the crew, the serial number, and the sterling and Robbins hallmarks. Very fine.

Apollo 9 was the first mission to fly with the full Apollo spacecraft, including the Lunar Module (LM), named "Spider" for this mission. The primary objective was to test the LM in Earth orbit, which included its engines, docking capabilities, and life support systems. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
