Description

Civil War Chasseur Pattern Leather Shako Ordered by the War Department from Paris as part of 10,000 complete Chasseur uniforms in 1861. Issued to five Northern regiments including the 83rd Pennsylvania and 72nd New York as well as some militia units. Overall in sound condition with moderately crazed body, interior has a 3 1/4" sweatband and complete leather straps, sweatband shows edge wear. Front features a brass front plate with stamped American eagle, shield and infantry horn, cockade is loose.
