Description

Abraham Lincoln: A Signed Miniature Portrait on Ivory in Decorative Original Ivory Frame. Portraits of this style were often executed by European artists during the last third of the nineteenth century for the American market. This one is signed "Smith," in the field about Lincoln's left shoulder, suggesting perhaps an American or English rather than Continental origin. Condition is excellent, and the image is an appealing take on the familiar five dollar bill pose originally taken in 1864. 3.625" x 4.25", as framed. From the Edward C. Gillette Collection.
