Description

Governor Thomas McKean Land Grant Signed "Tho. M:Kean." One partially printed page of vellum, 21.25" x 11.75", Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; September 23, 1806. Granting "Thomas M Willing...the Warrant herein after mentioned, and of the sun of twenty three dollars and ninety two cents...a certain tract of land called 'Aberconway' situated in the late Purchase now Potter County...containing one thousand and ninety nine acres." With the State Seal at the upper left corner, above which McKean has signed. With a smaller wax embossed paper seal on verso of the Enrollment Office.

A member of the Continental Congress from Delaware, Thomas McKean signed the Declaration of Independence and served as President of Congress in 1781. McKean also helped draft Pennsylvania's Constitution in 1790. When Thomas Mifflin retired in 1799, McKean would succeed him as Governor of Pennsylvania.

Condition: Flattened folds, with light toning and soiling. Creasing around and to the seals.
