Joseph R. Hawley Signed Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", a seated portrait in uniform, with a Kellog Brothers, Hartford, Connecticut backstamp on verso. Signed on verso: "Jos. R. Hawley Col. 7th C.V."

Joseph Roswell Hawley (1826-1905) was a Free Soiler and served with distinction in the Union Army. He rose from the rank of captain to brevet major general over the course of the war and saw action at the First Battle of Bull Run, Port Royal, the Siege of Charleston Harbor, the Siege of Petersburg, and Wilmington.

Condition: Light toning and spotting. Minor scratches at the top of the card. Light foxing. Pencil notations on verso.
