Description

Union Brigadier General Henry Shaw Briggs Carte de Visite and Clipped Signature. Includes: (1) Fantastic CDV of Briggs posed standing in uniform complete with overcoat and kepi, approximately 2.5" x 4" with a Brady, Washington, studio mark on the lower edge of the recto. A bright, sharp image in excellent condition. (2) Clipped signature, 4.5" x 2", mounted to a slightly larger backing sheet, "H. S. Briggs / Brig Gen. Vols. / Draft Rendezvous / Alexa. Va". Excellent condition. Henry Briggs (1824-1887) was severely wounded at the Battle of Fair Oaks in May, 1862, the wounds forcing him into lesser commands for the duration of the war.
