Description

Alexander Stephens Autograph Letter Signed "Alexander Stephens". Two pages, front and back, 5" x 8", Washington, D.C.; December 26, 1877. Stephens writes to Richard B. Hubbard "in the matter of the appointment of U.S. Marshall". After the Civil War, Stephens served five months in prison and then, in 1866, was elected to the U.S. Senate where he served until 1882 when he resigned to take the office of governor of Georgia.

Condition: Flattened mail folds, with one larger spot of soiling on recto and at the top corner on verso. Light additional soiling throughout.
