Florence Nightingale Autograph Letter Signed. One page of a bifolium, 4.5" x 7", West Hill Lodge, Highgate Rise; June 1, 1859. Addressed to "Gentlemen," Nightingale requests copies of the London Gazette for herself along with one copy of Contribution to the Sanatory History to Dr. [James Warburton] Begbie, the queen's physician in Scotland. It reads in full: "Please to send me two copies of the 'London Gazette' of May 31 And please send to Dr. Begbie Physician to the Queen Charlotte Square Edinburgh one copy of the 'Contribution to the Sanitary History' &c." Signed, "F. Nightingale." Together with:

Notes on Nursing: What it is, and What it is Not. London: Harrison, [1859]. 1st edition, 1st issue. Octavo (5.5" x 8.5"). 79 pages. Pebbled black boards with blind stamped border, gilt stamped title to front board. Without "The right of Translation is reserved." to the title page. Plain, pale yellow endpapers with "Huntington Williams" bookplate.

Reference: Osler, 1667

Condition: Letter has some light soiling with smoothed folds. Notes on Nursing: spine perished, but binding holding, front board, front endpaper and title page detached, but laid in. Rear board sprung, but holding. A few areas of toning and soiling internally. Good.
