Description

Abraham Lincoln Autograph Letter Signed "A. Lincoln." One page of a bifolium, 5.25" x 8", Springfield, Illinois; June 4, 1860. Addressed to Hon. William A. Buckingham, following Lincoln winning the nomination at the Chicago Republican National Convention on May 18, 1860. The short thank you letter reads in full: "Your kind letter of congratulations was duly received, and I beg you will believe the necessity alone has delayed the acknowledgement of its receipt so long. I am truly glad to learn that you have recovered your voice, and that your general health is better. Please present my respects to Mrs. B and believe me very truly yours." Lincoln won the nomination over fellow candidates William H. Senator, Simon Cameron, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, Cassius M. Clay, Benjamin Wade, Jacob Collamer, and William L. Dayton.
