Black Unity, Volume I, No. 1, August 1970. Eight pages, 11.5" x 17.5", Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California; August 1970. Rare first issue of the Black Panther's radical newspaper. Only two issues would be published. Front page illustration is by Emory Douglass. The centerfold features an article by Huey P. Newton, the Minister of Defense for the Black Panther Party. His article reads, in part: "Politics is war without bloodshed. War is politics with bloodshed...The white racist oppresses black people not only for racist reasons, but because it is also economically profitable to do so...Because black people desire to determine their own destiny, they are constantly inflicted with brutality from the occupying army, embodied in the police department..."

Condition: Lightly wrinkled with bumped and creased corners.
