Description
James Madison Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 7.75" x 10"; September 30, no year. A letter to Mr. Catts regarding financial matters. In part: "I have [illegible] Mr. Davis a check of B.C. for $1200. I have not time to ascertain the balance there in my favor. Shd. there be any difficulty Be so obli[gi]ng as to overcome it. The B. will I presume at least pay the amount in their hands under the asking of the check..." Signed " J. Madison." Matted to the overall size of 10.25" x 13".Condition: The letter is affixed to a back board with two small pieces of cello tape at the top. Heavy mat burn at all margins, with light chipping as well. An image of Madison is ghosted onto the front of the letter, likely resulting from being stored with an engraving.
