Description

Lincoln & Hamlin: A Scarce Larger-Sized 1860 Campaign Ferrotype. The mate to the Breckinridge & Lane appearing in the second session of this auction. A very nice example, with considerable original luster of the brass shell frame and a nice sheen of the ferro surfaces. Under magnification one does note a half dozen light spots on the Lincoln side, and some very minor bubbling of the emulsion to the edge at 7:30. The portrait on the Hamlin side is very bright, but there are some scattered very light small scratches which detract minimally. In person, a more pleasing example than one might think from this technical description. Diameter 27mm.
