The Constitution of Massachusetts, drafted primarily by John Adams and ratified on June 15, 1780, is regarded as one of the oldest functioning written constitutions in continuous effect in the world. It established a framework of government that included a clear separation of powers, a system of checks and balances, and a strong emphasis on individual rights, many of which influenced the U.S. Constitution. Its preamble and declaration of rights continue to serve as a foundational expression of democratic principles and the rule of law.
Condition: Toning, as expected, with slight foxing throughout. Mailing folds, with some separations thereat. Paper loss at the upper right corner and bottom right margin, obscuring some text. Remnants of sealing wax at the upper left margin on the recto. Docketed on the verso.
