Description

Patrick Henry Signed Land Grant as Governor. One partially printed page, 14 ¼ x 15 inches (sight), Richmond; April 22, 1785. Land grant allotting William Bustard 200 acres in Virginia. Signed, "P. Henry." Matted and framed to the overall size of 21 ½ x 22 inches.

Henry served as the first post-colonial governor of Virginia and is perhaps best remembered for his iconic Revolutionary War line, "Give me liberty, or give me death!" At the time he issued this land grant, Henry was serving as the state's sixth governor, having taken a break from politics after a tumultuous first governorship. His second stint in the position was marked by relative peace, largely due to the fact that county militias had been brought under control.

Condition: Creased along folds with small separations, occasionally affecting text. Lightly toned. Not examined outside of the frame. Slight scuffing to the left side of the frame.
