Description

[Revolutionary War]. Charles Thomson Document Signed as Secretary of the Continental Congress. One page of a bifolium, 7.75" x 9"; "In Congress;" June 5, 1780. Thomson transmits an extract from the Congressional minutes: "Resolved. That the supplies which any of the States shall, upon requisition for that purpose, furnish, of articles not required from them by the resolution of the 25th day of Feby last or to a greater amount than is required by the said resolution shall be credited to them..." Furnishing supplies to the Continental Army was a continual challenge for Congress. As evidenced by this document, Congress repeatedly sought to compel the states to furnish supplies for the Continental Army. The document offered here is docketed "Georgia" on the verso and was intended for that state. Boldly signed "Cha Thomson Secy."

Condition: Lightly toned, with some wear at the folds resulting in tiny separations at the margins. Right edge of sheet is a bit rough. Verso has some soiling along folds and a pencil annotation.
