Description

Paul Revere Autograph Document Signed removed from a larger sheet. One page, 7.5" x 1.25"; Boston; April 21, 1800. Revere issues a receipt for a payment: "Recd Eighty five Dollars in part. Paul Revere." The receipt offered here is likely cut from an account book but presents as whole. Matted and framed with an engraving of Revere and an informational plaque to an overall size of 22.5" x 16".

A copper engraver and silversmith by trade, Paul Revere is best remembered for his "midnight ride" of April 18-19, 1775, immortalized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem Paul Revere's Ride. By 1800, Revere had successfully grown his business and enjoyed large contracts from both the state and federal governments as well as local merchants.

Condition: Flattened folds, with small separations occurring at several places. Small hole where the folds intersect at left. Some showthrough from writing on verso. Not examined out of the frame. Frame has chipping and multiple scratches.
