Description
John Hancock Signed Military Appointment Issued During the Revolutionary War. Single partly printed sheet, 10" x 11.25"; July 1, 1781. Governor John Hancock appoints William French to the rank of "Captain of a Company in the Third Regiment of Militia in the County of Suffolk where of Seth Sumner Esq. is Colonel." Thomas Crane signs of Justice of the Peace attesting that French has taken an oath of allegiance, and Colonel Sumner adds an endorsement assigning a company to French. Framed and matted with double-sided glass to an overall size of 16" x 18".Condition: Partial separations occurring at folds, with bits of paper loss affecting some text. Scattered foxing and toning. A fold crosses the bottom of the "J" in John, otherwise a large and bold signature.
