Bound Volume of Ke Kumu Hawaii, Vol. 1. Twenty-six issues of Hawaii's first mainstream newspaper bound together, beginning on November 12, 1834 and running through December 23, 1835. 4to, 208 pages (each issue is 8 pages). Numerous small engravings throughout. Contemporary half calf over marbled paper covered boards. The very first issue of the Hawaiian newspaper "Ke Kumu Hawaii" was released on November 12, 1834, and the publication ran until 1839. The paper was issued biweekly and was marketed for the general public of Honolulu.

Condition: Paper loss on boards so that much of the bare boards are visible. Staining and chipping on spine. Corners are bumped. Slight worm holing with some paper loss along the top margin of inner pages. Light toning and soiling throughout. Binding is fragile but sound.
