Description

Samuel Thaxter Document Signed. One page, 7.5" x 7.5"; Hingham, [Massachusetts]; April 26, 1705. A document addressed to the constable of Hingham to call together the inhabitants of the town to vote "in the Election of Representatives to appear at the meeting house in Hignham... at eight of the clock on the fore noon on the twenty eight day of April Currant then and there to chose one or more persons to represent them in the grate and general Court..." Signed, "Saml Thaxter" at the conclusion as a selectman for the town. Also signed by Stephen Lincoln. Addressed, "To ye Constables" on verso.

Thaxter was a prominent citizen of Plymouth and served on the committee to settle the boundary dispute between Massachusetts and Rhode Island in 1719. His son Samuel Thaxter, Jr. was married to Mary Hawke, mother of Declaration Signer John Hancock. He was also the grandfather of Revolutionary War general, Benjamin Lincoln.

Condition: Flattened folds, with small separations at the top and right margins. Toning with stray spots of foxing. A few small creases along the top edge.
