First edition of this collection. Octavo. [ii], 642 pages. Contemporary full brown calf, boards ruled in gilt, spine tooled in gilt in compartments five raised bands, brown gilt morocco lettering label. Binding worn and darkened at edges, spine headcap chipped, front board detached, rear joint cracking, pages 237 and 513 missing the upper half of the page, page 461 with a chip in the lower corner with minor loss. A fair copy of an unusual collection of horror stories, several of which first appear here in English. With the ownership signature of author and editor John Weyland and the bookplate of collector Nathan Comfort Starr.
