Written by Jacques de Chevannes, a Franciscan, mainly for the use of magistrates, dealing with the nature of magicians and sorcerers, the means of recognizing them and the obligation to punish them. Contains a Response to Gabriel Naudé, who wanted to differentiate the legal occult from the illegal.

Condition: Boards worn along the edges, more so at the corners; old catalog clipping mounted to front free endpaper; light to moderate marginal foxing throughout; some light pencil annotations; repair at lower corner page 277; lacks final three leaves of index. Good condition.
