A near fine copy of Wolfe's landmark novel of the American life, met with such critical acclaim upon its publication that Malcolm Cowley was caused to write in The New Republic: "Thomas Wolfe at his best is the only contemporary American writer who can be mentioned in the same breath with Dickens and Dostoevsky."

Condition: Light edgewear, corner a touch bumped and rubbed, faint scuffing, head and tail slightly pushed. Text block edges toned, some wear to bottom edge, top edge trimmed, fore-edge untrimmed, bottom rough-trimmed; pencil notation to front flyleaf recto. Internally clean and tight. Dust jacket unclipped ($3.00); minor edgewear, some chipping at corner folds, faint soiling to rear panel, spine lightly sunned, flaps toned along edges.
