Hugo Gernsback. Ralph 124C 41+. A Romance of the Year 2660. Boston: The Stratford Company, 1925. First edition. Signed by the author. Octavo. [2], 293 pages. Publisher's light blue cloth ruled and blind and lettered in gilt. Original illustrated dust jacket.A wonderful copy of this hard science fiction classic, somehow looking almost as futuristic for 1925 as much of Gernsback's writing. His "highly imaginative technological projections" included radar, microfilm, television, plant hormones, wireless transmission, electric automobiles, antigravity devices, spaceships, weather control, and radioactivity, all featured through amazingly detailed and clear descriptions (Bleiler).
Condition: Somewhat shaken, moderate edgewear, corners bumped and rubbed, boards lightly scuffed, abrasions to lower board, staining along joints and at top edge of lower board, head and tail pushed, spine rubbed. Text block edges toned, top edge trimmed, other edges untrimmed, with some wear; front hinge loose, purple ownership stamp of Boardman C. Reed to pastedowns, with his printed acquisition label to the half-title. Pages toned, intermittent scattered staining to margins, some thumbing, a few corners creased. Dust jacket decoratively clipped, priced "$2.00"; some losses at corner folds, head, and top edge of rear panel, a few holes to spine and front panel, splits along joints at head and tail, folds creased somewhat soiled all-over, dampstaining to rear panel, purple ownership stamps of Boardman Reed to verso. Overall, a very good book in a very good dust jacket.
