Description

Ray Bradbury. The Martian Chronicles. Garden City: Doubleday & Co., 1950. First edition. Signed and inscribed by the author on the front free endleaf recto, "Mark! / Ray Bradbury / Jan. 20, 1980." Octavo. Publisher's pale green cloth stamped in maroon; original illustrated dust jacket.

Though Bradbury dabbled in a wide range of genres, he is perhaps best-known for his supernatural and science-fiction, particularly those stories which embraced something of a blend of the two, as with The Martian Chronicles. Bleiler remarks on Bradbury as "the poet of science-fiction," and notes that his work serves as a major cultural influence, particularly for youth.

Condition: Some edgewear, corners a touch bumped, board edges with a few indentations, sunned along edges and spine. Text block edges lightly toned; some offsetting to endpapers. Internally clean and tight. Dust jacket with publisher's decorative clip ($2.50); minor edgewear, some creasing along folds, lightly toned along edges, traces of soiling to rear panel. Overall, a very good book and jacket.
