Association copy, inscribed by the photographer on the title-page, incorporating printed text: "à Joan et Eliot [Elisofon] / [arrow drawing] / [printed text] The Decisive Moment / de l'amitié / Henri / 19 jan 57 / la vraie / patrie c'est l'amitié." Folio (14.125 x 10.625 inches; 360 x 270 mm.). Unpaginated, [ii, 14 (text), 137 (photographs and captions), 1 (blank), 3 (publisher's note), 1 (blank), 2 pages], includes 126 photographs on 64 leaves. Six-leaf pamphlet listing captions, saddle-stitched in self-wrappers, laid in. Publisher's printed paper-covered boards, recased with original spine laid down, in original dust jacket. Spine and board edges faintly browned; boards gently splayed and lightly rubbed with some light soiling; board edges worn. Dust jacket split at spine folds, secured by tape; edges worn with large closed tear at upper edge of front panel near flap and a large chip at each spine end; faintly browned; few other minor tape repairs on verso; price-clipped. A sound, attractive copy in a good dust jacket with exceptional provenance. Eliot Elisofon was a notable photojournalist. He was the subject of several exhibitions, including retrospectives at the National Museum of African Art and The Harry Ransom Center. With a note of provenance from the photographer's son, Elin, on his stationery.Auction Info
