Robert Frost. A Boy's Will. New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1915.8vo. Publisher's blue cloth, spine and front board stamped in gilt, buff endpapers; cloth slipcase.
First American edition, second state, later binding. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR WITH A COMPLETE 12-LINE POEM "SPRING POOLS," on p. [10]: "Spring Pools / These pools that through in forests still reflect / The total sky almost without defect, / And like the flowers beside them chill and shiver, / Will like the flowers besides them soon be gone, / And that not out by any brook or river / But up by roots to bring dark foliage on. / The trees that have it in their pent-up buds / To darken nature and be summer woods / Let them think twice before they use their powers / To blot out and drink up and sweep away / These flowery waters and these watery flowers / From snow that melted only yesterday. Robert Frost / For Ruth and Loring Dodd."
"Spring Pools" was first published in book form in West-Running Brook, published in 1928.
Condition: Minor edgewear to corners and spine ends; bookplate apparently removed from front free endpaper recto leaving abrasions and a small hole, not affecting text.
