Original pale green ribbed cloth, gilt oval title block at center of front cover, spine decoratively gilt; quarter morocco slipcase. FIRST EDITION, FIRST BINDING, with three-line imprint at foot of spine, no errata slip, and the publisher's catalogue dated 16 November 1846. Spine a bit browned with some chipping at ends; boards toned brown at margins; hinges split; some spotting throughout. BAL 5210. - Emerson. The Conduct of Life. Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1860. 8vo. With 16 pp. publisher's advertisements at end dated December 1860. Original blindstamped brown cloth, gilt-lettered on spine; quarter morocco slipcase. FIRST EDTITION, FIRST PRINTING, BAL's variant A. Some wear to spine ends and corners; some mild blistering to cloth; hinges cracked. BAL 5231. - Emerson. Letters and Social Aims. Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1876. 8vo, original green cloth, blind-ruled on covers, gilt lettered on spine. FIRST EDITION, with signature mark "N" present on page 209, which BAL notes probably indicates the copies first printed. Slight rubbing to joints and extremities, otherwise very bright. BAL 5272.
