1816-1826]. Sixteenmo. Title-page and thirty-six plates of women
from various nations in their contemporary costumes. Separate
plates, measuring approximately 2.5 x 3.5 inches each, loosely
placed in plastic envelopes in a photo album, clean copies with
good impressions on thin wove paper (see Pennington reference in

More Information:
Hollar (1607-1677), Bohemian by birth, did most of his work in England, producing more than two thousand prints in his lifetime. He is often considered the greatest engraver living in England in the seventeenth century. His two series of female costumes was justly famous and still has many enthusiasts.
This is an early nineteenth century reprint of this famous series of plates made from the original plates with some minor rëengraving and added titles in German. It was issued in McCreery's A Collection of Original Etchings...
