FIRST EDITION of Bryant's first published collection of poems. Includes his most famous poem, "Thanatopsis," which was first published in the North American Review (September 1817), but extensively revised for this collection, adding lines at the beginning and end, as well as other changes. According to BAL, 750 copies were printed, of which 575 were bound.

Condition: Spine a little worn with a few splits or small losses; corners a little rubbed; some foxing to wrappers and endpapers; occasional minor spots or marks; a little wrinkling to lower margins throughout. Overall, a fine copy in original wrappers. SCARCE IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS.
