Henry Ellis. A Voyage to Hudson's-Bay, by the Dobbs Galley and California, in the Years 1746 and 1747, for Discovering a North West Passage... London: Printed for H. Whitridge, 1748. First edition. Octavo. xxviii, 336 pages. Complete with nine engraved plates (four folding), folding map frontispiece, and head and tail pieces. Modern three-quarters morocco over red brick cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Modern endpapers, all edges trimmed and speckled red.

"Ellis... was hydrographer, surveyor, and mineralogist on the expedition, which proved, finally, the nonexistence of a Northwest passage from Hudson Bay" (Hill).

Condition: Textblock slightly toned with a bit of scattered foxing. Eight plates with blue ink library stamps to verso, sometimes visible on recto, slight paper loss from stamps to three plates. Near fine.
