Description

[Civil War]. Union Brigadier General Francis E. Patterson Carte de Visite, circa 1861. 2.5" x 4.25". Patterson, a member or Ben McCulloch's spies during the Buena Vista Campaign (Mexican War) and the son of General Robert Patterson, is featured sporting a wavy beard and wearing a tilted hat. In 1862, General Daniel Sickles criticized Patterson (1821-1862) for withdrawing his troops at Catlett's Station, Virginia. Later that year, Patterson died from a gunshot wound, either self-inflicted or accidental. Minor staining. Penciled notations on verso.
