Description

Black Bart: A Rare Original Albumen Of The Famed California Stage Coach Robber. Known as the "Gentleman's Bandit" the masked robber pulled off some two dozen daring heists before clever detective work disclosed his identity. Offered here is a cut down cabinet card by C.F. Bolton, c.1883, which is the most often reproduced and familiar image of the bandit. This highly desirable version bears the back mark of Tabor Studio in San Francisco. It appears to have been trimmed at one time to fit into a 4" x 5 1/2" CDV mount, but is in otherwise excellent condition. Charming period notations on the mount by the original owner. Original photographs of famous western outlaws & lawmen are rare and widely collected, An untrimmed example of this image sold for $25,200 in a 2017 auction, and another example reportedly sold for $42,000 in a 2012.
